Ayahuasca is a plant medicine that has been utilized, for centuries, by the indigenous of the Amazon for both healing and mind expansion. Its curative capabilities are endless. Unlike much of Western medicine (which is designed to treat the symptoms of an illness), ayahuasca works to eradicate the root cause of an illness. Ayahuasca operates on many different dimensions in order to heal the entire organism, body and mind. Shamanic Healing. Ayahuasca is a tool, a medico which facilitates healing on many different levels. When ingested, ayahuasca induces an expanded state of consciousness. It is during this state that healing occurs. Experienced curanderos (healers) are responsible for guiding and caring for patients during ceremony. Healing the Mind. In the West, psychotherapy is used as a means of helping an individual to solve their problems, achieve their goals and manage their lives, thus allowing them to become more integrated and fulfilled. Ayahuasca, on the other hand, can be used by the individual as a means of resolving conflicts and increasing awareness from within; it is for this reason that ayahuasca is an effective form of treatment for a variety of debilitating illnesses. Healing the Body. Ayahuasca is used in conjunction with the dieta and other plant medicines during the treatment of an illness. The dieta, or diet, is designed to thoroughly cleanse the body of impurities, while specific plants are used to aid in healing. Under the care of a curandero, an individual can learn how to effectively and efficiently utilize medicinal plants to promote self-healing. Ayahuasca treatment is an intensive treatment that allows the body to both cleanse and regenerate itself.
